STOP-AF trial evaluating the Arctic Front Cryoballoon for ablation of atrial fibrillation
Principal Investigator: Kevin Wheelan, M. D. Location: Baylor Heart and Vascular Hosptial Primary Objective: The trial targets patients with two or more episodes of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation monthly who have failed an AA drug (flecainide, sotalol, or propafenone). Eligible patients will be randomized 2:1 to pulmonary vein isolation using the cryoablation balloon vs therapy with an alternate AA drug. Patients must have at least one documented episode of AF in the last two months.
So far, our cases have gone very smoothly. European data suggest good efficacy with an outstanding safety profile. We believe this will emerge as an important component of AF ablation in the future.
