MORBID OBESITY and CABG

A retrospective study of 1,200 cases with six-year follow-up.
Principal Investigator: Baron Hamman, M.D.
Location: Baylor University Medical Center
Sub-Investigators: Greg Matter, M.D.; Thomas Hoang M.D.
Primary Objective: To define the role (if any) of morbid obesity on CABG. This is a long-term study of 1,400 CABG cases done at BUMC.

Findings: We found little association of MO with mortality from CABG. This is submitted to JACC for publishing.

We found a startling relationship of acute renal failure with CABG in the very obese patients. This was elucidated with the use of cubic splines. This will be submitted to Western Thoracic Surgery Society for oral presentation.

We found that use of cubic splines can tease out relationships that are otherwise not discernable. This will be submitted to Epidemiology for publication.
