Advanced Heart Failure

Your heart pumps blood around your body to supply all of your organs with oxygen. When it doesn’t work the way it should anymore, you have what’s known as heart failure. Your heart may not be strong enough to gather enough oxygen from your lungs, or to pump oxygen-rich blood around your body.

Symptoms of heart failure include:

  • Palpitations

  • Leg swelling

  • Cough and/or wheezing

  • Fatigue, weakness

  • Weight gain (fluid retention)

  • Bloating, sometimes with decreased appetite

  • Chest discomfort, tightness

  • Shortness of breath (dyspnea) at rest, on exertion, lying flat, at night
