Balloon valvuloplasty is a non-surgical procedure that restores blood flow through a narrowed heart valve (typically done for the aortic valve though it can be done for the mitral, as well as pulmonic valve). In this procedure, your doctor will thread a catheter with a small balloon on the end to the affected valve. Once it’s in place, the balloon is inflated to expand the valve, which will restore blood flow across the valve temporarily.
