(Watchman) Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Procedure Q & A

What is a Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Procedure?

This is reserved for patients that have atrial fibrillation and an inability to tolerate being on blood thinners such as Coumadin, xarelto, eliquis, or pradaxa due to major bleeding, inability to regulate blood thinness levels  (eg INR varying), and occupation or lifestyle that places the patient at a high risk for bleeding. In the procedure, your doctor guides the device through a vein in your leg to the heart and across the atrial septum into the left atrial appendage. You will require to be monitored in the hospital for 24 hours after the procedure.
